Minister Says Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese cars, and staff have been advised to refrain from talking about secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Guidance for Defence Personnel

During a recent interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that MoD officials have been told not to discuss classified material while riding in China-made cars.

He stated that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that security is a issue in all modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

The revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This broader defence situation underscores the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in all aspects of official activities, including vehicle use to communication habits.
